2010 Herdsfolk First Novel Award goes to Don Weiss!

The judges have chosen "Mailaise," Don Weiss's unpublished first novel for the 2010 Herdsfolk award. Congratulations Mr. Weiss!
Don Weiss is a communicable disease investigator for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. He was born in the Bronx and majored in chemistry at Dickinson College before receiving a medical degree from the New Jersey Medical School and a degree in Epidemiology from St. Louis University. He was one of the public health investigators of the 2001 anthrax outbreak and is the author of over twenty medical articles and book chapters on infectious disease epidemiology. Mailaise is his first work of fiction.
